Bernice Wallace Bowling

Cheraw, SC

With gratitude in our hearts for a life well-lived, we share the peaceful passing of Bernice Bowling, age 88, who entered her eternal rest on August 5th, 2026. Bernice was born in Chesterfield County, SC, to the late Elbert and Ella Brock Wallace. She was preceded in death by her parents, her dearly beloved husband, Wilbert “Buck” Bowling; her brother, Jerry Wallace; her brother-in-law, Earl Watson Sr.; and her nephew, David Watson.

Though Bernice's passing marks a great loss, we find comfort in knowing she is at peace and was ready to be with the Lord she loved so deeply. While we will miss her dearly, we are grateful for the time we shared and for the legacy she leaves behind. She is survived by her devoted sister, Eva Mae Watson; her nephew, Earl Watson Jr.; her nephew, Steven Watson all of Winchester, VA; great nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins. Her family will always treasure the love, strength, and wisdom she imparted to them.

A woman of faith and service, Bernice lived a life rich in devotion to both her family and community. For many years she worked at Delta Manufacturing where her dedication and work ethic shone brightly. Alongside her husband, she also operated a local community store, serving not just as a business owner, but as a steadfast pillar of support for those around her. Through both roles, Bernice touched many lives and contributed greatly to the fabric of her community.

In addition to her work, Bernice was deeply committed to caring for her loved ones. She selflessly cared for her father in his later years, and after his passing, she devoted herself to the care of her husband until his death. Even though she never bore children of her own, she embraced the role of nurturing many children in her community and serving as a crossing guard for the town of Cheraw, SC, for many years. Her love for the children was evident, and even after she was no longer able to serve in person, she would often drive to the crossing guard station and sit in her vehicle watching over them with the same concern and affection she had always shown.

Bernice was a faithful member of Westside Baptist Church of Cheraw, SC, where she found joy in worship and service. Her love for the Lord and her church family was an anchor in her life. She was a woman who loved people, and her kindness and warmth drew others to her. Whether enjoying meals out with friends, tending to her beautiful flowers, or sharing time with her beloved dogs, Bernice’s life was one of joy, service, and love.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Westside Baptist Church on Saturday August 8th at 2pm, with visitation prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00. Burial will follow the service at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens.

Many thanks go out to Agape Care (Ginny, April, Holly), and all that were there with excellent care. Thanks to the employees at Post Acute and to anyone that took the time to treat Bernice with kindness and care during her final journey. Nurse Rebecca, you are an angel, we will never forget your kindness, and the compassion you’ve showed. And last, but not least, to the Hall Residents that became Bernice’s family, your love and concern came from the heart.

Donations in honor of Bernice may be made to Westside Baptist Church, or the charity of your choice.
