Gene Turner passed away on May 31, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born on July 5, 1954 in Cheraw, SC. He was a devoted father, cherished PaPa, and a beloved friend to many.
Gene was always a hard worker. He dedicated his career to Stanley Tools in Cheraw, SC where he retired in 2023 after 50 years of service. Gene could fix or build anything. He was always in his shop tinkering with something. He also spent many hours in his shop laughing and telling old stories with his buddies, most often Howard Jackson and Bucky Chapman, who are both lifelong friends. One of his favorite annual trips that he has taken for decades, was a fishing trip to the Outer Banks every Fall. He loved to fish and had taken many fishing trips over the last few months.
Gene deeply loved and cared for his family. He was their “go to” guy for everything. We always said if PaPa couldn’t fix it, no one could. He had a special bond with his grandson, Walker. He would make sure everyone knew that Walker was his heart. They spent many hours in the shop, watching Andy Griffith, riding four-wheelers, playing darts, and telling stories. He would run around and take his grandchildren anywhere they needed to go.
Gene’s legacy will continue to be felt by those who knew and loved him best. He is survived by his wife of almost 39 years, Debra Turner; his mother, Betty Turner of Cheraw; five children, Amanda Mishue (Bradley) of Hartsville, Kelley Rubish (Pete) of Knoxville, TN, Terri Anne Cribb (Jason) of Patrick, Brannon Turner (Kristen) of Vienna, WV, and Jason Winburn (Michelle) of Hartsville; two sisters, Penny Jacobs (Byron) of Chesterfield and Ann Griggs (James) of Cheraw; thirteen grandchildren, Trent Winburn (Lynsee), Pateyn Walker (Andrew), Brooke Devaney (Bradley), Brannon Turner Jr., Logan Turner, Emily Christopher, Hunter Turner, Josiah Christopher, Gracie Winburn, Sandler Meadors, Walker Mishue, Ettalyn Mishue, and Summer Rubish; and eight great-grandchildren. Gene was preceded in death by his father, Barnice Turner.
