Barbara Ratley Spencer

Chesterfield, SC

Mrs. Barbara Jean Ratley Spencer, age 85, entered into rest on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at her home. Funeral services will be 1 O’Clock PM, Saturday, December 17, 2022 from the chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Rev. Don Rhyne with burial to follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in McFarlan, NC. The family will greet friends from 12:00-1:00 O’clock PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Spencer was born March 15, 1937 in Dillon, SC a daughter of the late Marvin and Veta Duncan Ratley. Barbara worked at JP Stevens for 5 years where she met James. They married and she became a full time homemaker raising 5 children. She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, reading and sewing. Everything she tried she seemed to have a natural feel of it as if she had known how to do it from the first attempt. Caring for her family over the years was loving joy. She was a beautiful loving wife, mother and grandmother that will be deeply missed.

 In addition to her parents, Mrs. Spencer was also preceded in death by her brothers; Douglas and Bryan Ratley.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, James Spencer of the home; children, David (Deronda) White of Teals Mill, Juanice Berry of Cheraw, Jim (Lorie) Spencer of Cheraw, Jeff (Tracy) Spencer of Cheraw, and Joe (Jeanette) Spencer of Cheraw, SC; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
